Onetime UFC talent Homer Moore was arrested Monday in Tempe, Ariz., on a first-degree murder charge in a case nearly 15 years old, according to a press release from Tempe police.

The victim, Karam Hussein Jabbar, was reported missing one week prior to being found by police in August 1999 at a grocery store parking lot in Mesa, Ariz.

According to the release, “[Jabbar] was found deceased in the trunk of a vehicle, both hands and feet bound, and a bag over his head.” The medical examiner concluded Jabbar died of “asphyxiation due to deprivation of oxygen due to ligatures and [a] plastic bag over [his] head and neck.”

The case went cold for years, but Tempe police, assisted by the U.S. Marshals Service and the Maricopa County Attorney’s office, this week identified Moore as one of the primary suspects involved in the murder. Moore is being detained by the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Department and is being held on a $1 million bond.

Moore, who last fought in March 2013, was a standout wrestler at Phoenix College, where he won a NJCAA national championship in 1992 before beginning his MMA career in 1999. “Rock” enjoyed early success, going undefeated through 11 pro bouts until he was submitted by future UFC middleweight champ Evan Tanner in his lone Octagon appearance at UFC 34 in 2001.

Although Moore has been arrested for his alleged involvement in the murder, Tempe police are still investigating and looking for further information on the other suspects believed to be involved, according to the release.
