Former UFC Featherweight Diego Nunes Signs Deal With Bellator

Diego Nunes, at one time ranked among the top 10 featherweights in the world, has recently signed a contract to compete for Bellator MMA.

MMAFighting.com first reported the deal, and promotion officials confirmed the signing to Sherdog.com on Monday. No date has been confirmed for Nunes’ Bellator debut.

The 30-year-old Brazilian completed a 3-3 stint in the Octagon this past January, dropping a unanimous decision to Nik Lentz at UFC on FX 7. Nunes earned victories against Mike Thomas Brown, Manny Gamburyan and Bart Palaszewski during his tenure with the Las Vegas-based promotion. “The Gun” appeared to be on the brink of a title contention prior to UFC 131, but lost a decision to Kenny Florian in the evening’s co-main event.

Since signing with Zuffa, all 11 of Nunes’ bouts have gone the distance, including five with the now-defunct WEC. The X-Gym representative has never been finished in 22 professional appearances.
