Former UFC Champ Rafael dos Anjos Confirms He Passed Out for 3 Minutes Before Alvarez Bout

This past November, Ultimate Fighting Championship color commentator Joe Rogan claimed that former UFC lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos had passed out for three minutes prior to weighing in for his title fight with Eddie Alvarez last July. Now, we've got confirmation from the man himself.

On Monday, dos Anjos joined “The MMA Hour” with Ariel Helwani and confirmed the story that Rogan told over five months ago on Episode 871 of “The Joe Rogan Experience.”

"I passed out in the bathtub, in the hot tub. I was out for like almost three minutes,” recalled dos Anjos. "My coaches were about to call 911 and cancel the fight because I was out on my bed, and they put some ice on my chest, and then I woke up and stayed on my bed for one hour.”

The 32-year-old Brazilian would go on to make weight for his second title defense, clocking in at 155 on the dot. However, come fight night on July 7, dos Anjos was knocked out in less than four minutes by Alvarez and lost the UFC lightweight crown.

"We thought about cancelling the fight but I'm a fighter, I don't wanna upset the fans, but thinking back right now, I shouldn't make that fight because today guys all the time kind of don't fight because they have weight problems,” dos Anjos added.

Four months after his loss to Alvarez, dos Anjos returned against rising contender Tony Ferguson, who won a five-round unanimous decision over the former champion in Mexico City. After his issues making the 155-pound limit, dos Anjos has moved up to welterweight; he will take on former Strikeforce 170-pound champion Tarec Saffiedine at UFC Fight Night 111 on June 17 in Singapore.
