Mike Whitman May 17, 2011
Onetime Louisiana State University fullback Shawn
Jordan will return to the
Bellator Fighting Championships cage on Saturday, as the
heavyweight prospect locks horns with John Hill.
Sherdog.com confirmed the bout with a source close to the match-up on Tuesday following an initial report by MMAJunkie.com.
Bellator 45 goes down from the L’Auberge du Lac Resort in Lake
Charles, La. The event will feature two tournament finals, as
featherweight Patricio
“Pitbull” Freire (Pictured; file photo) butts head with fellow
145-pound finalist Daniel
Straus and light heavyweights Richard
Hale and Christian
M’Pumbu square off to decide who will be Bellator’s inaugural
205-pound champion.
Following his football career at LSU, Jordan made his professional debut in 2009, submitting Jayme Mckinney at Bellator 9. The heavyweight’s next appearance in the Bellator cage came one year later at Bellator 18, as Jordan disposed of Doug Williams by technical knockout in just 19 seconds. Later that year, however, Jordan suffered the second loss of his pro career, as he was knocked out in 73 seconds by Mark Holata at Bellator 31 in September.
Coincidentally, Hill’s lone pro loss also came at the hands of Holata, as he was submitted by the Oklahoman with a rear-naked choke in 2009 after beginning his career 2-0. Hill’s most recent outing ended in victory, as he knocked out John Orr just 29 seconds into their King of the Cage bout in October 2009. Hill has not seen action since that win.
