Former Champ Dominick Cruz Out of UFC 219 Clash vs. Jimmie Rivera

The injury bug has hit Dominick Cruz again, forcing the former bantamweight champ to pull out of a pivotal bout against Jimmie Rivera at UFC 219.

MMAFighting.com was first to report Cruz’s withdrawal, which occurred due to a broken arm. It is currently unclear if Rivera will remain on the card.

UFC 219 takes place at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on Dec. 30 and features a lightweight clash between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Edson Barzoa as well as a welterweight showdown pitting Carlos Condit against Neil Magny.

Cruz hasn’t competed since losing the bantamweight crown in a five-round decision to Cody Garbrandt at UFC 207 last December. That defeat halted a 13-bout winning streak for “The Dominator.”

Rivera, meanwhile, is currently riding a 20-fight winning streak that includes five triumphs in the UFC. Most recently, the Team Tiger Schulmann representative outpointed Thomas Almeida at UFC on Fox 25 on July 22.
