Flyweights Zach Makovsky and Josh Sampo have verbally agreed to square off at UFC 170.
Promotion officials announced the matchup on Monday evening. UFC 170 takes place at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas and is headlined by a women’s bantamweight title bout between Ronda Rousey and Sara McMann. The card also features the 205-pound debut of Daniel Cormier, who locks horns with Rashad Evans in the evening’s co-main event.
A former Bellator bantamweight champion, the 31-year-old Makovksy was released by the promotion in late 2012 after back-to-back losses. “Fun Size” then posted two straight wins on the regional circuit before outpointing Scott Jorgensen on short notice in a flyweight bout at UFC on Fox 9.
Sampo, a former Championship Fighting Alliance flyweight titlist, enters the bout riding a five-fight winning streak. The 29-year-old “Gremlin” submitted Ryan Benoit with a rear-naked choke in his Octagon debut at the “TUF 18” finale.
