Flyweights Henry Cejudo, Sergio Pettis Rebooked for UFC 218 in Detroit

Flyweight contenders Henry Cejudo and Sergio Pettis will lock horns at UFC 218 in Detroit on Dec. 2.

Cejudo confirmed the pairing via Twitter following an initial report from MMAFighting.com. Cejudo and Pettis were initially slated to fight at UFC 211 in May, but the Olympic gold medalist was forced to withdraw from the bout due to an injured hand.

UFC 218 takes place at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit and also includes a pivotal heavyweight tilt between Alistair Overeem and Francis Ngannou. The evening’s main card airs on pay-per-view.

Cejudo snapped a two-fight skid with arguably the most complete performance of his career, as he earned a technical knockout victory over Wilson Reis 25 seconds into the second round at UFC 215. “The Messenger” is now 11-2 in his pro career, with his only two defeats coming to reigning 125-pound champ Demetrious Johnson and perennial contender Joseph Benavidez.

Pettis, meanwhile, enters the matchup on a four-bout winning streak. The 24-year-old Roufusport product last appeared at UFC Fight Night 114, where he garnered a five-round verdict against Brandon Moreno in the evening’s main event. Pettis is 7-2 during his promotional tenure and 16-2 as a professional overall.
