Floyd Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor Falls Short of Breaking All-Time Gate Record

While Floyd Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor was a success by most any metric, it did not break the all-time gate record.

The Aug. 26 superfight at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas garnered a total gross gate of $55,414,865.79, with 13,094 tickets sold and 137 complimentary tickets. Multiple outlets confirmed the figures Wednesday following on initial report from Jed I. Goodman on Twitter. Mayweather defeated McGregor via technical knockout in the 10th round of a bout that attracted plenty of mainstream interest outside the usual combat sports fanbase.

Those profits are far less than what was generated for Mayweather’s fight with Manny Pacquaio in May 2015. That contest, which Mayweather won via unanimous decision, produced $72,198,500 from 16,219 ticket sales at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

Still, Mayweather-McGregor is the second-highest grossing gate ever, and Showtime executive Stephen Espinoza recently claimed that the fight still has a chance of the Mayweather vs. Pacquiao record of 4.6 million pay-per-view buys. Mayweather currently holds the top four highest grossing gates in Nevada.
