Fernando Augusto, Garry Tonon Victorious in Polaris 4 Featured Fights

Rising jiu-jitsu promotion Polaris returned on Saturday with another event and it’s safe to say that Polaris 4 might have been the best one yet for the U.K.-based show.

Headlining the event, which took place at the Lighthouse Centre in Poole, Dorsett, England, was a rematch 15 years in the making as Vitor Ribeiro took on Fernando Augusto da Silva in the lone gi match of the main card. As expected, the duel came down to the wire as the match was as competitive as ever, but “Terere” was the one who had his hand raised in triumph.

The two Brazilian legends fought tooth and nail for position throughout the allotted 15 minutes, with neither man budging an inch. Augusto was the aggressor throughout, though, and attacked “Shaolin” constantly, and because of his more aggressive style that forced his rival on the defensive, he was awarded a unanimous decision. The win for “Terere” evened up the score between the two as Ribeiro won 2-0 in the Worlds back in 2001.

In a terrific co-featured bout, rising star Garry Tonon had to fend off an early onslaught of attacks from Gilbert Burns but in the end, his world-renowned leg lock game proved to be the difference. After Tonon missed a few heel hooks in transition, he rolled into a kneebar and then switched to another heel hook, one that “Durinho” couldn’t escape and forced the tap.

Polarizing grappler AJ Agazarm claimed beforehand that he didn’t know what to expect from Japanese legend Ikuhisa Minowa, but it certainly seemed like he knew every move his foe was going to do before he did them. Agazarm transitioned from a textbook armbar into a triangle choke during a scramble and forced “Minowaman” to tap out. From there, Agazarm took the mic and called out original Polaris 4 foe Ralek Gracie and said he’d fight him in Bellator.

Also on the card, Dillon Danis submitted Jackson Sousa courtesy of a heel hook; Charles Negromonte defeated Eduardo “Teta” Rios via unanimous decision; Nathan Orchard tapped Masakazu Imanari with a rear-naked choke; Dominyka Obelenyte toppled Yas Wilson via unanimous decision; and Tom Breese earned a unanimous nod over Ben Dyson.
