Fan Poll Sends Scott Jorgensen-Eddie Wineland Matchup to UFC on FX 3 Main Card

Bantamweights Scott Jorgensen and Eddie Wineland will clash on the UFC on FX 3 main card.

Jorgensen-Wineland served as one of three bubble matchups involved in the Harley-Davidson “Hometown Throwdown” fan poll. The bout bested Mike Pierce-Carlos Eduardo Rocha and Seth Baczynski-Lance Benoist to earn a spot on the FX broadcast. Wineland confirmed the results of the fan vote Tuesday afternoon on Twitter; the UFC has not yet made any official announcement.

Headlined by a pivotal flyweight rematch pitting Demetrious Johnson against Ian McCall, UFC on FX 3 takes place June 8 at the BankAtlantic Center in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. The main card will also feature a pair of welterweight confrontations, as Charlie Brenneman meets Erick Silva and Mike Pyle faces Josh Neer.

Jorgensen, 29, has won two of his last three bouts. Following five consecutive WEC wins, “Young Guns” failed in his attempt to become the UFC’s inaugural bantamweight champion, falling to Dominick Cruz in December 2010. Jorgensen posted a pair of victories to begin his UFC career, besting Ken Stone and Jeff Curran before falling to rising talent Renan Barao at UFC 143.

Wineland is still searching for his first Octagon victory. The WEC’s first bantamweight titleholder saw a four-fight winning streak snapped in his UFC debut when he was outpointed by Urijah Faber last spring at UFC 128. Wineland found no redemption in his next outing against Joseph Benavidez, as Faber’s teammate also outpointed the Hoosier at UFC Live 5 in August.
