Bellator MMA made a serious upgrade to its light heavyweight division on Wednesday, as the promotion announced the signing of 13-time UFC veteran Phil Davis to an exclusive, multi-fight contract.

“I can’t wait to be fighting in Bellator and wreck shop on everyone,” Davis stated in a release. “I am the absolute best and most dominant grappler to ever fight in MMA, and I’m excited to get in there and compete at my new home.”

Davis posted a 9-3 record – with one no contest -- over the course of a UFC tenure that began in 2010. “Mr. Wonderful” owns notable triumphs over the likes of Glover Teixeira, Lyoto Machida, Antonio Rogerio Nogueira, Alexander Gustafsson and Brian Stann. “Mr. Wonderful” is currently No. 6 in Sherdog.com’s 205-pound rankings.

Davis last competed at UFC on Fox 14 on Jan. 24, when he dropped a lackluster split decision to Ryan Bader. The Alliance MMA product’s last five fights have gone the distance.

“Phil is a world class mixed martial artist, and we are very happy to be adding him to our roster of some of the best light heavyweights in the world,” Bellator President Scott Coker said. “Bellator remains fully committed to building its world-class roster by signing top free agents like Davis, as well as grooming up-and-coming stars. We’ve got some amazing matchups in mind for ‘Mr. Wonderful’ that we will be announcing in the weeks to come.”
