Ex-UFC Champ Ronda Rousey Delivered Supplies to Dakota Access Pipeline Protesters

Ronda Rousey has been mostly silent since her 48-second knockout loss to Amanda Nunes at UFC 207, but the former bantamweight queen hasn’t been inactive.

Rousey delivered food and supplies to those protesting the Dakota Access Pipeline, activist leader Linda Black Elk told TMZ Sports on Wednesday. Rousey, who spent some time as a child in North Dakota, brought fruit, vegetables, bread, tents and wood-burning stoves to the group.

“Just absolutely amazing,” Black Elk told TMZ. “She’s an incredible person and just so humble. She wasn't asking for any publicity and when I talked to her about that, she basically said that she felt like a disappointment. She just felt that everyone was really upset with her. I couldn’t believe I was doing it, but it was very important for me to let her know just how important she is to the native community in particular.

“That’s what keeps us going, that kind of support and just the morale booster it was. That’s what keeps us going. It means everything to us.”

The Standing Rock Sioux tribe has led protests against the pipeline, which will carry oil across 1,172 miles and four states when completed. The Sioux are concerned that the project could contaminate the water on their land, which ends about half a mile from the pipeline. The project is nearly complete but was halted by Barack Obama in December. However, new President Donald Trump recently signed an executive order to continue the pipeline. The tribe claims that the pipeline project has continued without their consent and violates the terms of a treaty given to them by the government.

According to Black Elk, Rousey said she would return to North Dakota to support the protestors.

“She actually told me that she would come back and stand right on the front lines and get pepper sprayed alongside everyone else,” Black Elk said.
