Ev Ting Topples Takedown-Minded Rob Lisita in One Championship Headliner

Damage was the name of the game for Ev Ting.

The Auckland MMA standout carved up Rob Lisita with strikes, withstood a series of takedowns and captured a unanimous decision in the One Championship “Unbreakable Warriors” main event on Friday at Stadium Negara in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. All three cageside judges sided with Ting (12-3), who has rattled off three straight wins since his submission defeat to current One Championship featherweight titleholder Marat Gafurov in May 2015.

Lisita (14-9) sought a takedown-heavy path to victory. The Australian grappler executed takedowns in all three rounds, but his inability to corral Ting on the canvas meant he exacted little damage from top position. Lisita could not keep up on the feet. Ting attacked with multi-punch combinations, stinging leg kicks and knees to the body. Lisita fought through fatigue -- he could be seen gasping for air throughout the second and third rounds -- but could not stop his fresher opponent from piling up points at his expense. Ting utilized a thudding jab, hooks with both hands and the occasional right uppercut, leaving Lisita with significant damage to his face.

In the featherweight co-main event, Shannon Wiratchai put away Peter Davis with second-round punches. Davis (10-5) succumbed to blow 3:32 into round two. The 27-year-old Wiratchai (6-1) has won his last four bouts, finishing three of them.

Meanwhile, Team Lakay’s April Osenio (2-1) submitted Ann Osman with a first-round guillotine choke in a women’s flyweight showcase. Osman (4-3) tapped 4:09 into round one, as Osenio recorded her second win in as many appearances.

Elsewhere, Astra Fight Team rep Gilberto Galvao made a successful organizational debut, as he took a three-round unanimous decision from Japanese journeyman Tatsuya Mizuno (15-12-1). All three judges gave Galvao (29-5-1) the nod, as the 34-year-old Brazilian extended his winning streak to five fights.

In other action, Gianni Subba (8-2) was awarded a unanimous decision over Yago Bryan Farias de Morais (3-2) after their three-round confrontation at 125 pounds; Agilan Thani (6-0) submitted Trestle Tan (4-6) with a rear-naked choke 2:24 into the first round of their welterweight pairing; Keanu Subba (4-2) struck Waqar Umar (4-4) into submission 4:31 into the first round of their scrap at 145 pounds; Musu Nuertiebieke (4-0) knocked out Bruno Pucci (4-2) eight seconds into round one of their featherweight encounter; Jenny Huang (4-0) submitted Jeet Toshi (3-3) with an arm-triangle choke 3:21 into the third round of their women’s atomweight affair; Muhammad Aiman (1-1) pocketed a unanimous decision against Hisyam Sams (1-2) in their 15-minute confrontation at 145 pounds; and Rene Catalan (1-2) walked away with a unanimous verdict over Zhang You Liang (0-3) in their three-round flyweight tilt.
