Erick Silva to Fight Yancy Medeiros at UFC 212 in Rio de Janeiro on June 3

A welterweight clash between Yancy Medeiros and Erick Silva is official for UFC 212 in Brazil.

The UFC formally announced the pairing after Hawaii’s KHON-TV first reported it last week. UFC 212 will be anchored by the featherweight unification bout between champ Jose Aldo and “interim” titleholder Max Holloway. The event takes place June 3 at Jeunesse Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and will be broadcast live on UFC Fight Pass, FS1 and pay-per-view.

Silva had lost back-to-back battles before he submitted Luan Chagas via rear-naked choke at UFC Fight Night 95 last September. A split decision loss to Neil Magny at UFC Fight Night 74 preceded a second-round knockout to Nordine Taleb at UFC 196 and the Brazilian needed to get back on track. Chagas was the right opponent and Silva will be aiming to keep the positive turn of events in his favor.

Medeiros had gone 2-2 in four bouts leading up to his second-round submission win over Sean Spencer at UFC 203 last September. Losses to Dustin Poirier and Francisco Trinaldo were sandwiched between triumphs over John Makdessi and Joe Proctor, but the Hawaiian needs to keep the steam rolling if he’s to stay viable at welterweight.
