Donald Cerrone Says Win Over Myles Jury at UFC 182 ‘Wasn’t a Fight’

Donald Cerrone holds himself to the highest of standards, and his performance at UFC 182 against Myles Jury was not one of which he was particularly proud.

The 31-year-old Jackson-Wink MMA product dominated the younger Jury inside the Octagon and on the judges’ scorecards, winning the co-main event bout unanimously 30-27. But if Cerrone had his way, the fight would have had a different outcome.

“I’m upset... I don’t like hearing boos. My legacy is I want to be fighting my ass off every time,” Cerrone said. “I don’t consider that a win. I’m upset with my performance. I’m going to go watch the tape and figure out what I need to do to capitalize if that happens again.”

What “Cowboy” specifically referred to was Fury’s refusal to engage as the fight progressed. After a first-round takedown by Jury, Cerrone managed to use his strong jiu-jitsu skills to put the 26-year-old fighter in danger with submission holds. Escaping the danger in the opening frame, “Fury” spent a good portion of the fight avoiding Cerrone instead of engaging.

“What the hell was that? That wasn’t a fight! What a joke, man. This kid talked a lot of trash about how he was going to come in here and do this and that to Cowboy. He said he was gonna push me for 15 minutes and all he ended up doing was run,” Cerrone said. “Those leg kicks at the end were out of sheer frustration. I come here to fight hard for the fans every time and put on an exciting show win, lose, or draw. Jury clearly had no intentions to fight tonight and that’s not what it’s about.”

Regardless of how Cerrone feels about his performance, he still walked away from MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas with his sixth straight win. As usual, the former World Extreme Cagefighting competitor wants to remain active, honing in on the UFC Fight Night card in Colorado on Feb. 14.

“Denver in a couple weeks would be pretty f------ cool,” Cerrone said.
