Former lightweight title challenger Diego Sanchez will make his initial 145-pound foray against Ricardo Lamas at UFC Fight Night "Brown vs. Gastelum" in Monterrey on Nov. 21.
The Las Vegas-based promotion revealed the matchup on Wednesday. UFC Fight Night takes place at Arena Monterrey and is headlined by a welterweight showdown between Matt Brown and Kelvin Gastelum. The event will be televised on Fox Sports 1.
Sanchez, who won Season 1 of “The Ultimate Fighter” as a middleweight, has competed primarily at 155 and 170 pounds in the Octagon. The Jackson-Wink MMA representative last appeared at UFC Fight Night in Albuquerque, where he took a controversial split-decision triumph over Ross Pearson. “The Dream” owns notable triumphs over the likes of Takanori Gomi, Martin Kampmann, Clay Guida, Karo Parisyan, Nick Diaz and Kenny Florian, to name a few.
Lamas, meanwhile, is looking to bounce back from a first-round technical knockout loss suffered at the hands of Chad Mendes in April. “The Bully” challenged for featherweight gold in 2014, losing a five-round verdict to reigning champion Jose Aldo at UFC 169.
