Former lightweight champ Thomson won a controversial unanimous decision after going three rounds with Gesias “JZ” Cavalcante, who netted $40,000 for his performance. Thomson was also not awarded a win bonus, according to the CSAC’s statistics.
Held at the HP Pavilion in Strikeforce’s hometown of San Jose, Calif., the event drew a reported 7,559 fans for a live gate of $528,446.50.
On the undercard, Marloes Coenen earned a conspicuously low $3,000 (including a $1,000 win bonus) for her 135-pound women’s title-claiming victory over Sarah Kaufman. The former champion took home $20,000 for the first loss of her career.
Unbeaten prospect Tyron Woodley knocked out jiu-jitsu whiz Andre Galvao less than two minutes into their welterweight contest, doubling Woodley’s $7,500 purse with a $7,500 win bonus. Galvao earned $10,000 in defeat.
