Dave Herman’s Wife Captured Video of Fighter Being Arrested, Tased by Police

UFC and Bellator MMA veteran Dave Herman was arrested Tuesday morning near Fort Wayne, Ind., but his wife’s description of the incident contradicts that of local authorities.

Madeleine Herman captured video footage of her husband being tased and handcuffed by police officers after he asked to see a form of identification. In the video, Madeleine said that they began experiencing car trouble on the I-69 in Dekalb County and were followed by police at some point after Herman turned on the car’s hazard lights.

The couple eventually pulled over at a gas station, and according to Madeleine, Herman got out to address the officers because he did not want armed strangers approaching the vehicle with their infant son in the back.

“I’ve never met you. I don’t know you. Can you please show me your ID?” Herman can be heard saying.

“They immediately drew their weapons and began shouting at him, telling him to put his hands up and to turn around,” Madeleine said. “They then came up to the vehicle and saw that I was recording and were more than happy to show me some identification.”

That account differs from the report that was initially posted on the Dekalb County Sheriff’s Department Facebook page, which has since been deleted but can be viewed on mixedmartialarts.com.

The report states that a vehicle was observed traveling southbound on I-69 “with no headlights or taillights traveling at a high rate of speed.” Herman then allegedly led the officers on a pursuit for approximately three miles before stopping in a gas station and approaching in an “aggressive manner,” according to the report.

Herman is being charged with three felonies: resisting law enforcement with a vehicle, battery against law enforcement and neglect of a dependent. He was also charged with a Class A misdemeanor, resisting law enforcement.

“They have not set bail for him or arraigned him,” Madeleine said. “They are refusing to give any information, except for through their Twitter account and their Facebook and have been defaming Dave with trumped-up charges.”

Herman last competed as a professional mixed martial artist on May 16, earning a unanimous decision over Kalib Starnes at Titan Fighting Championship 28.
