A former two-division Legacy champion, Pineda struck for multiple takedowns, successfully navigated the Team Takedown export’s guard and survived a second-round knockdown. The 29-year-old grounded Carson a little more than 30 seconds into round three, settled in half guard, framed the kimura and advanced to full mount for the finish.
Pineda (21-11), who replaced the injured Anthony Njokuani on short notice, has secured each of his 21 victories by knockout, technical knockout or submission.
Meanwhile, prized Brazilian prospect Ricardo Lucas Ramos dazzled in his organizational debut, as he disposed of 2013 Abu Dhabi Combat Club Submission Wrestling World Championships bronze medalist Justin Rader with a first-round knee strike and follow-up punches in the bantamweight co-main event. Rader (3-1) met his end 31 seconds into round one.
Ramos (7-0) blasted the Oklahoman with a crushing knee in the center of the cage, flooring him inside the first 20 seconds. Rader latched onto a desperate single-leg takedown attempt and was promptly greeted by a series of right hands that left him defenseless on all fours and forced referee Don Turnage to act.
The 19-year-old Ramos has finished six of his seven victories, five of them in the first round.
In other action, Bellator MMA and King of the Cage alum Zac Church (6-2) stopped James Warren (6-2) on a gnarly cut in between the first and second rounds of their 150-pound catchweight contest; Mohler MMA’s Amber Stautzenberger (6-4) took a unanimous decision from Kathina Catron (6-5) in a women’s strawweight scrap, sweeping the scorecards with 30-27, 30-27 and 29-28 marks; Rodney Allison (7-2) tapped Daniel Hauenstein (4-6) with a rear-naked choke 4:47 into round one of their battle at 145 pounds; and Hector Arteaga (3-1) submitted Chavous Smith (7-5) with a rear-naked choke 35 seconds into the first round of their bantamweight clash.
