The Ultimate Fighting Championship has yet to issue a response as of 10:50 p.m. ET Friday evening. In a video posted to Instagram on Saturday afternoon, Jones expressed his desire to stay on the card and said he'll finght any opponent at Light heavyweight or heavyweight.
It’s unclear as of publication time if a replacement fighter will square off with Jones, or if the former champion will be pulled from the card. UFC 197 features another title bout that could be moved to the main event if necessary, as 125-pound ace Demetrious Johnson will put his strap on the line against Henry Cejudo.
It’s almost as if the Jones-Cormier rematch was destined for failure from the beginning, as Jones struggled with legal issues that found him in front of a judge multiple times and locked up for probation violation this week. He has since been released from custody.
Sherdog.com will have more on the situation as it develops.
