Dana White: Luke Rockhold vs. Chris Weidman Rematch Will Happen at UFC 199

Luke Rockhold will defend his middleweight championship in a rematch against Chris Weidman at UFC 199 in June.

UFC President Dana White broke the news on “Garbage Time with Katie Nolan” on Wednesday. No date or venue for the event was revealed.

Rockhold captured the 185-pound belt with a fourth-round technical knockout victory over Weidman at UFC 194 on Dec. 12. On that same card, Yoel Romero took a split decision against Ronaldo Souza in what could have been a title eliminator, but Romero was flagged by the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency for a potential failed drug test and has been provisionally suspended.

Rockhold has won five straight fights in the Octagon since losing his debut via knockout to Vitor Belfort in May 2013. In addition to Weidman, the American Kickboxing Academy product has defeated the likes of Lyoto Machida, Michael Bisping, Tim Kennedy and Souza during his pro career.

The setback to Rockhold was the first in 14 professional outings for Weidman. The Serra-Longo Fight Team member began his promotional tenure with nine straight wins and upset Anderson Silva to win the middleweight title at UFC 162. He defended the belt twice, besting Silva in a rematch at UFC 168 before stopping Belfort at UFC 187 this past June.
