Combate Americas Rebrands as Combate Global, Inks 5-Year Broadcast Deal with Univision

Latin American mixed martial arts promotion Combate Americas will rebrand itself as part of a five-year broadcast partnership with Univision, the top Spanish language content and media company in the United States.

The organization, which will now be known as Combate Global, has signed a five-year media rights deal to broadcast 30 events annually on Univision. The kick-off event will take place on April 9, with further details for the card to be announced in the coming weeks.

Going forward, Combate Global events will be available on all Univision platforms, including TUDN, the TUDN Radio Network, TUDN.TV and the TUDN app. Additionally, Combate’s fight library will be available on Univision’s recently-launched streaming service called PrendeTV.

“This powerful broadcast partnership will establish Combate Global as the premier MMA brand on TV in North America. Univision’s power and Combate Global’s excitement will inspire passion in a new generation of fans for this sport,” Combate Global CEO Campbell McLaren said in a release.

According to the release, the rebrand to Combate Global reflects the promotion’s addition of athletes from outside the United States and Latin American countries, “to support the company’s electrifying country vs. country style of competition, similar to that of international soccer competitions.”

In another twist, North American soccer matches will serve as lead-in programming to Combate Global events in hopes of connecting soccer fans with mixed martial arts.
