Carls John de Tomas Fails USADA Drug Test at UFC Fight Night 123 in Fresno

Bantamweight Carls John de Tomas failed an in-competition drug test following his weigh-in at UFC Fight Night 123, the promotion revealed in a statement on Friday.

“Although de Tomas is no longer under contract with UFC, USADA, the independent administrator of the UFC Anti-Doping Policy, will handle the results management and appropriate adjudication of this case, as it relates to the UFC Anti-Doping Policy,” the statement read. “Under the UFC Anti-Doping Policy, there is a full and fair legal process that is afforded to all athletes before any sanctions are imposed. The California State Athletic Commission (CSAC) also retains jurisdiction over this matter as the sample collection was performed the day before de Tomas’ bout at UFC Fight Night: Swanson vs Ortega in Fresno, CA. Accordingly, USADA will work to ensure that the CSAC has the necessary information to determine its proper judgment of de Tomas’ potential anti-doping violation.”

The 21-year-old de Thomas lost to Alex Perez via second-round submission in their bout on Dec. 9 at the Save Mart Center in Fresno, Calif. “Golden Boy” debuted in the Octagon at UFC Fight Night 111, dropping a unanimous verdict to Naoki Inoue.

The Quezon City, Philippines, native owns a 6-2 career mark and was a champion under the Universal Reality Combat Championship banner.
