Camozzi Rejoins UFC, Faces GSP Teammate Carmont on Oct. 29

Chris Camozzi was released by the UFC in February after only one loss with the promotion, but it only took him one win to get back inside the Octagon.

UFC officials announced Monday that 24-year-old Camozzi (Pictured) has agreed to meet French newcomer Francis Carmont in a middleweight undercard bout at UFC 137.

The event, which takes place Oct. 29 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, will be topped by a welterweight title affair between Georges St. Pierre and Carlos Condit.

An injury casualty on the 11th season of “The Ultimate Fighter,” Camozzi earned narrow decision wins over Dongi Yang and James Hammortree before suffering a 95-second submission loss to Kyle Noke in February. In the main event of May’s Shark Fights 15, the Colorado resident engaged with Joey Villasenor in another close scrap, one originally announced as a draw and later overturned to a split win for Camozzi due to a calculation error.

A training partner of main-eventer St. Pierre at Montreal’s Tristar Vale Tudo, Carmont starts his UFC career on a five-fight winning streak with four straight finishes in the past 12 months. The 29-year-old Frenchman has not lost since returning from a two-year hiatus last September, recently punching out UFC veteran Jason Day and submitting decorated grappler Kelly Anundson.
