By the Numbers: UFC Halifax

Derrick Lewis never fails to entertain.

Nearly stopped by kicks to the body in the opening frame of his headlining encounter with Travis Browne at UFC Fight Night 105 “Lewis vs. Browne,” Lewis rallied to score a technical knockout victory 3:12 into the second frame in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, on Sunday night.

While the “Black Beast” might not yet be ready for a heavyweight title shot, his rise through the division is hard to overlook (online sportsbooks). Here is a by-the-numbers look at UFC Fight Night 105, with statistics courtesy of FightMetric.com .

8: KO/TKO victories in UFC competition for Lewis, tying him with Junior dos Santos, Matt Mitrione and Roy Nelson for third most among heavyweights in promotion history. Only Andrei Arlovski (9) and Cain Velasquez (10) have more KO/TKO victories.

6: Consecutive triumphs for Lewis following his second-round technical knockout victory over Browne. That is the longest active streak in the heavyweight division. Rising star Francis Ngannou is No. 2 with five straight victories.

18: Significant strikes landed by Browne in round one, including 10 to the body and eight to the legs. Lewis, meanwhile, landed just four. “Hapa” appeared to have his opponent reeling with a series of kicks to the body, but “The Black Beast” somehow managed to survive the frame.

32: Significant strike advantage for Lewis in the decisive second stanza. The Houston native floored Browne and landed 17 significant strikes on the mat to close out his victory over Browne.

708: Days since Johny Hendricks’ last UFC victory. The former welterweight champion returned to the win column for the first time since March 2015 with a unanimous decision triumph over Hector Lombard at middleweight in Sunday’s co-main event.

0: Takedowns landed — and attempted — by Hendricks, a former NCAA national champion wrestler at Oklahoma State University. Hendricks’ 61 career takedowns are tied for fifth most all-time in UFC history. Lombard, meanwhile, landed two of nine takedown attempts in defeat.

51: Significant strikes landed by Hendricks. Lombard, meanwhile, landed 37.

53: Significant strikes at distance landed by Octagon debutante Gavin Tucker in his unanimous decision triumph over Sam Sicilia. By comparison, Sicilia landed just nine significant strikes at range.

.110: Significant striking accuracy for Sicilia, who landed just 10 of 87 significant strikes in the featherweight scrap. Tucker, meanwhile, landed 55 of 163 significant strikes, a 33 percent clip.

59: Total strikes by which Elias Theodorou outlanded Cezar Ferreira in their middleweight bout. “The Spartan” outlanded his foe 18 to 9 in round one, 32 to 1 in round two and 20 to 1 in round three.

3: Consecutive triumphs for Sara McMann, the third-longest active winning streak in the women’s bantamweight division behind Amanda Nunes (five) and Raquel Pennington (four). McMann submitted Gina Mazany with an arm-triangle choke in the opening stanza of their bout on Sunday.

1:14: Time of McMann’s victory over Mazany, the second fastest submission victory in UFC women’s bantamweight history. Ronda Rousey owns the No. 1 spot with a 14-second tapout of Cat Zingano at UFC 184.

4: Consecutive victories for Santiago Ponzinibbio following his unanimous decision triumph over Nordine Taleb. That is tied for the second-longest active winning streak in the UFC’s welterweight division behind only Demian Maia (six).

18: Unofficial media scorecards, of the 22 tracked by MMADecisions.com, that scored the strawweight clash between Randa Markos and Carla Esparza in favor of Esparza. However, two of the three cageside judges saw it for Markos, giving the Canadian a split-decision triumph.

28: Total strikes by which Reginaldo Vieira outlanded Aiemann Zahabi in their bantamweight bout. Despite outlanding his foe in each round and landing the only two takedowns of the fight, Vieira lost a unanimous decision.

19: Career submission triumphs among 25 professional victories for Gerald Meerschaert, who tapped out Ryan Janes with an armbar 1:34 into the opening round of their middleweight bout. The Wisconsin native has won his last four via submission, including two in the Octagon.
