Brian Stann Injured, Out of UFC on Fox 4 Headliner against Hector Lombard

Brian Stann has suffered an undisclosed injury and will be unable to compete as expected against Hector Lombard in the UFC on Fox 4 headliner.

Sherdog.com confirmed the news with a source close to the bout on Wednesday. MMAFighting.com first reported the development.

UFC on Fox 4 takes place Aug. 4 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles and marks the promotion’s third event of 2012 to appear on Fox’s flagship network. There has been no word from the UFC regarding either Stann’s injury or a potential replacement opponent for Lombard.

Stann, 31, has won four of his last five contests, with only a loss to current No. 1 contender Chael Sonnen marring the ex-Marine’s record during that stretch. The former World Extreme Cagefighting light heavyweight champion made his 185-pound debut in 2010, rattling off a trio of victories over Mike Massenzio, Chris Leben and Jorge Santiago before submitting to Sonnen’s arm-triangle choke this past October at UFC 136. The “All-American” rebounded from the loss in his most recent outing, however, stopping Alessio Sakara with ground-and-pound seven weeks ago at UFC on Fuel TV 2.

Lombard has not lost in over five years, recently ending a three-year stretch with the Bellator Fighting Championships that saw him earn eight victories and capture the Chicago-based promotion’s middleweight title. The hard-punching 34-year-old last competed on Nov. 19, dispatching Trevor Prangley in the second round of their Bellator 58 affair to notch his 17th career knockout.
