Brendan Schaub-Matt Mitrione Rescheduled for UFC 165 in Toronto

Brendan Schaub and Matt Mitrione have a new fight date, as the heavyweights will collide Sept. 21 at UFC 165.

UFC officials confirmed the booking Friday night. Schaub and Mitrione were initially supposed to square off next week at UFC on Fox 8, but the booking was postponed after Mitrione was forced to withdraw due to injury.

UFC 165 takes place at Air Canada Centre in Toronto and is headlined by a light heavyweight title showdown between Jon Jones and Alexander Gustafsson. The evening’s main card airs live on pay-per-view and will also see Renan Barao defend his interim bantamweight championship against former WEC ruler Eddie Wineland.

Schaub halted a two-fight skid in his most recent outing, when he cruised to a unanimous decision over Lavar Johnson this past February at UFC 157. Prior to that grinding victory, “The Hybrid” had not posted a win since knocking out Mirko Filipovic in March 2011. Schaub holds a 5-3 Octagon record and owns seven of his nine pro victories by way of knockout.

Five years older than his foe, Mitrione, 35, also reversed a two-fight losing streak in his last bout, knocking out British grappler Philip De Fries in just 19 seconds at UFC on Fuel TV 9. Following his time as a pro football reserve in the NFL, “Meathead” began his MMA career 5-0 after a stint on “The Ultimate Fighter 10.” Mitrione saw that winning streak snapped in 2011, however, when he was outpointed by Cheick Kongo before being knocked out by Roy Nelson last year.
