Brazilian Prospect Bezerra Debuts at Bellator 46 against McCook

Bellator Fighting Championships has inked once-beaten Alexandre “Popo” Bezerra to a contract, and the Brazilian will make his promotional debut against local talent Matt McCook in a preliminary featherweight clash at Bellator 46.

The promotion announced the news on Friday. Nine bouts are now official for the event. Going down from the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Fla., Bellator 46 will feature four featherweight tournament quarterfinals on the main draw, which airs live on MTV2 June 25.

A professional since 2008, Bezerra holds half of his career victories by submission. “Popo” rides a three-fight winning streak heading into his Bellator debut. The Brazilian's only loss came in 2009 to rising UFC talent Charles “Do Bronx” Oliveira. “Do Bronx” submitted his countryman with an anaconda choke in the second round at First Class Fight 3.

Prior to that defeat, “Popo” had won five straight. Bezerra has finished all but one of his career victims and has never been knocked out as a pro. The lightweight most recently competed at First Class Fight 5 in October, submitting Luis “Samurai” Agostinho with a first-round rear-naked choke.
