After more than a year away from the Octagon due to injury, Brandon Thatch will make his return at a yet to be titled UFC Fight Night event on Feb. 14 against Stephen Thompson.
Ultimate Fighting Championship officials announced the pairing on Thursday. The card will emanate from the 1st Bank Center in Broomfield, Colo., and already features Max Holloway against Cole Miller, as well as Zach Makovsky versus Tim Elliott.
Thatch impressed in his first two outings inside the Octagon, defeating both Justin Edwards and Paulo Thiago with knees in the first-round. A veteran of Resurrection Fighting Alliance, “Rukus” has not tasted defeat since a lone appearance for Strikeforce in 2008, dropping a split decision to Brandon Magana.
Equally impressive but with more UFC experience, Thompson is presently riding a four-fight winning streak into the welterweight pairing. After dropping a unanimous decision to Matt Brown at UFC 145, “Wonderboy” has beaten Nah-Shon Burrell, Chris Clements, Robert Whittaker, and Patrick Cote. The fight against Thatch will be Thompson’s first fight not on pay-per-view since joining the Zuffa ranks.
