Boxing News: Stiverne-Wilder Title Fight Reportedly Set for Jan. 17 in Las Vegas

Deontay Wilder, the last American male to win a medal in boxing at the Olympics, is tentatively scheduled to face Bermane Stiverne on Jan. 17 at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

According to a report from ESPN.com, Stiverne’s heavyweight World Boxing Council title will be on the line in a fight that will be broadcast on Showtime Boxing.

Wilder maintains a professional boxing record of 32-0, with all 32 wins coming by way of knockout. The 29-year-old was awarded his title shot during WBC’s annual meetings, with a deadline of the first quarter of 2015. Wilder, who won bronze at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, has yet to see a contest go past the fourth frame.

Stiverne holds an equally impressive mark of 24-1-1, with 21 victories by way of knockout. His last outing came at Galen Center in Los Angeles on May 10, when he defeated Chris Arreola for a second straight time. With the win, Stiverne acquired the championship belt that Vitali Klitschko gave up after retiring to pursue a political career in his native of Ukraine. The 36-year-old has not lost since 2007.
