Boxing News: Marco Antonio Rubio Misses Weight, Opportunity to Seize GGG’s Title

Prior to their fight Saturday night from StubHub Center in Carson, Calif., Gennady Golovkin and Marco Antonio Rubio tipped the scales.

Rubio failed to make weight on his first attempt, registering a tally of 161.8 pounds. He did not attempt to weigh-in again, and was stripped of his interim title. If Golovkin is victorious Saturday, he will leave with the belt he entered with and Rubio's former strap. Should “GGG” lose, both titles will remain vacant.

"It's the biggest fight of his career against the most dangerous fighter, so it's a big disappointment," Rubio's trainer, Robert Garcia told ESPN.com. "We were trying. He did everything he could to make weight. But he got a point where his body just shut down. No more weight was going to come off. He just couldn't do it."

Keep it locked to Sherdog.com as we will have live blow-by-blow coverage and virtual scoring of every round of the fights main card fights tomorrow.

Weigh-In Results:

Gennady Golovkin (159) vs. Marco Antonio Rubio (*161.8)
Nonito Donaire (125.6) vs. Nicholas Walters (125.6)

* Rubio failed to make weight and was stripped of his interim title.
