Boxing News: Amir Khan-Devon Alexander Set for Dec. 13 in Las Vegas

Amir Khan will return to action for the first time since defeating Luis Collazo when he meets Devon Alexander on Dec. 13 in Las Vegas.

Golden Boy Promotions President Oscar De La Hoya confirmed the welterweight bout to ESPN.com on Wednesday. The event will air on Showtime and will likely take place at Mandalay Bay Events Center or MGM Grand Garden Arena. The card will also feature Demetrius Andrade against Jermell Charlo, as well as Keith Thurman versus Leonard Bundu.

“There are just little details that we are finishing but Khan and Alexander are going to fight,” De La Hoya told ESPN.com. “Khan looked good against Collazo, but I have a feeling he wants to make a statement against Alexander, and Alexander is coming off a good win in a good action fight with Soto Karass. What’s happening here is they realize they have to prove themselves if they want to get a really big fight, like against Mayweather.”

Khan (29-3, 19 KOs) has bounced back well after dropping two straight junior welterweight world title bouts against Danny Garcia and Lamont Peterson. The 27-year-old is currently riding a three-fight winning streak and is often said to be next in line for a fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Alexander (26-2, 14 KOs) will be making his first appearance in the boxing capital after a 10-year career. While no titles will be on the line, Alexander is looking to climb back up the heap, as he once held welterweight and junior welterweight titles.
