Boxing: ‘Krusher’ Kovalev, Pascal Both Make Weight for Heated Rematch

All of the pre-fight fireworks have cleared and the ill-natured barbs between the two camps are gone for now. The only thing left for undisputed light heavyweight champion Sergey “Krusher” Kovalev and challenger Jean Pascal to do now is fight each other, to hopefully end their feud once and for all.

At Friday afternoon’s weigh-ins, both combatants looked chiseled out of marble and easily made the 175-pound limit in front of thousands of cheering fans. Pascal, the former WBC light heavyweight champ who was stopped by Kovalev 10 months ago, strolled to the scale and nailed it; he clocked in officially at 174.3 pounds.

Not to be outdone, “Krusher” was equally on point as his foe. The Russian, who owns the WBA, IBF and WBO light heavyweight belts, came in at 174.6 pounds. Afterward the two had a fierce staredown and with both men promising a knockout, it should be a great tussle Saturday night inside the Bell Centre.

The co-featured bout of the evening will see Dmitry Mikhaylenko and Karim Mayfield going at in over the course of 10 rounds. Mayfield tipped the scale at 147 pounds on the dot while Mikhaylenko came in at 146.7.

HBO will televise the event live from Montreal starting at 9:45 p.m. ET/6:45 p.m. PT.

HBO World Championship Boxing Weigh-in Results:

Sergey “Krusher” Kovalev (174.6) vs. Jean Pascal (174.3)
Dmitry Mikhaylenko (146.7) vs. Karim Mayfield (147)
