Bobby Green Replaces Injured Jamie Varner, Meets Pat Healy at UFC on Fox 9

Bobby Green will have a quick turnaround for his next bout. | Dave Mandel/Sherdog.com

Lightweight veteran Bobby Green will replace the injured Jamie Varner against Pat Healy at UFC on Fox 9.

Green first announced the news on Facebook, and UFC officials later verified the switch. UFC on Fox 9 takes place Dec. 14 at Sleep Train Arena in Sacramento, Calif, and is headlined by a flyweight title rematch pitting Demetrious Johnson against Joseph Benavidez.

Green, 27, recently picked up a controversial technical knockout win over James Krause at UFC Fight Night 32. Prior to that victory, “King” finished his Strikeforce run with four straight wins and then submitted Jacob Volkmann in his Octagon debut this past February. A former two-division King of the Cage champion, Green owns 17 of his 21 career wins via stoppage and has been knocked out only once in more than five years as a pro.

Like his foe, Healy is another veteran of the now-defunct Strikeforce organization. “Bam Bam” closed out that promotional run on a six-fight winning streak and then made an impressive UFC debut, submitting Jim Miller at UFC 159 this past April. However, Healy tested positive for marijuana metabolites following the bout, and the result was subsequently changed to a no-contest. Healy then returned to the cage on Sept. 21, dropping a hard-fought but clear-cut unanimous decision to Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 165.
