Bellator MMA Signs 3-Time Division II National Champion Wrestler Romero Cotton

Bellator MMA continues to stockpile wrestling talent, as the promotion recently announced the signing of three-time NCAA Division II national champion Romero Cotton.

The 26-year-old Cotton is currently finishing his psychology degree at University of Nebraska Kearney and is expected to make his Bellator debut sometime in 2017. Cotton will likely compete in MMA at 185 pounds.

“Having an opportunity to be part of a promotion like Bellator so early in my MMA career is one that I am thankful for. Being that I’m just starting out in the sport I thought it would be two or three years of grinding and working my way up the ladder before reaching a company of this magnitude,” Cotton said in a release. “Having seen how Bellator’s recent string of wrestlers have been treated and performed, I’m honored to be the latest and there’s nothing I’m looking forward to more than showing the world my skills that I've acquired throughout my life not only as a wrestler, but as an athlete. Now, I move onto the next phase of my career and will continue to develop into a well-rounded fighter.”

Cotton wrestled at 197 pounds at Nebraska Kearney and in addition to capturing three national titles, earned All American honors four times. Cotton also played football for three years at Nebraska Kearney after transferring from Nebraska. Cotton joins the likes of fellow decorated Tyrell Fortune, Ed Ruth, Joey Davis, Jarod Trice and Aaron Pico on the Bellator MMA roster.
