Fighting Championships’ sixth-season featherweight tournament,
Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney announced Tuesday.
Straus joins Marlon Sandro, Ronnie Mann and Wagnney Fabiano as a confirmed participant for the upcoming 145-pound draw. In addition to the featherweight proceedings, Bellator also plans to hold tournaments in the bantamweight, lightweight, welterweight and middleweight divisions. Season 6 is expected to begin in March and will air live on MTV2 on Friday nights.
Straus, 27, fought his way to the finals of Bellator’s Season 4 featherweight tournament in spring, outpointing Nazareno Malegarie in the first round before submitting Kenny Foster in April’s semifinals. Ultimately, Straus could not capture the tournament crown, as he dropped a unanimous decision to bracket champion Patricio Freire one month later at Bellator 45.
Following his loss to the younger “Pitbull” brother, Straus earned a victory outside of the Bellator cage on Oct. 15, taking a unanimous nod over Jason Dent at NAAFS “Caged Fury 15.”
