Bellator 70 Pulls 119,000 Viewers for Season 6 Finale on MTV2

An average of 119,000 viewers tuned in Friday night for MTV2’s broadcast of Bellator 70, Sherdog.com confirmed Wednesday with an industry source.

The event took place at the New Orleans Convention Center and marked the end of the Chicago-based promotion’s sixth season. The figure serves as the third-lowest viewership turnout for Season 6 and comes just one week after the season peaked with an average of 209,000 watchers for Bellator 69.

Olympic judoka Rick Hawn captured the lightweight tournament title in the Bellator 70 main event, outpointing fellow former welterweight standout Brent Weedman to earn a crack at Michael Chandler’s championship on a to-be-announced date.

Heavyweight titlist Cole Konrad also emerged victorious in the evening’s co-main event, easily dispatching Season 5 winner Eric Prindle in a flat 60 seconds after hitting a takedown and locking up a fight-ending kimura.

Luis Alberto Nogueira put forth a stellar performance in his bantamweight tournament semifinal earlier in the evening, knocking out Hiroshi Nakamura with a flurry of punches in the third round. “Betao” will now face Marcos Galvao in Bellator’s upcoming Summer Series to decide Eduardo Dantas’ next title challenger.
