Round 1

Trevino is the more efficient striker over the first two minutes, tagging Tuani with counterpunches to the head and body. Tuani sneaks a few lazy jabs in, but quickly gets desperate, throwing looping shots and Superman punches, easily allowing Trevino to pick him off. Tuani eats a straight left that rocks his skull back and Trevino switches stances, drilling him with a crisp one-two. Trevino stays orthodox, lands a hard right roundhouse kick to the body, then slaps Tuani with a left hook just before the bell. One-way traffic in the first round.

Round 2

Tuani is stalking Trevino, but looks like his gas tank is already depleted as he continues to throw lunging shots against the more composed and technical striker. Trevino continues working behind his jab, prompting Tuani to unload a massive overhand. Trevino easily ducks it and drills him with a right cross that freezes Tuani on his feet. Tuani stumbles 180 degrees backwards, but remains on his feet, eating another perfunctory series of three left hooks before the bout is stopped.

Sean Powers vs. Jarod Trice

Round 1

Powers lands a few early punches, leading to an immediate Trice single-leg takedown attempt. Trice works hard on a single while Powers pounds hammerfists into his head. Trice eventually gets the takedown, but Powers smartly uses the cage to sneak back to his feet. Trice, just three minutes in, looks a little bit more gassed than you’d expect from a high-level athlete. He shoots another single and Powers easily defends it, dinging him with more hammerfists and an overhand right on the break. Trice lands a hard jab, but Powers drills him with a low-calf kick that stumbles him up. It’s Powers now stalking Trice. Trice is unloading overhand rights, but they’re missing by a wide margin and Powers is starting to piece him up. Another hard low kick before the bell.

Round 2

Trice keeps lunging with the overhand right. He doubles up, then gets to Powers’ waist, angling for an outside trip. Trice has over-unders, but Powers has all the balance, then gets himself another overtook while dirty-boxing Trice up. Trice goes an inside sweep, but Powers easily defends it and busts him on the standup. Left roundhouse kick to the body by Powers. Twice swings on two massive overhand rights, both of which miss by miles. Powers lands a hard jab and another low-calf kick. Trice rips off a spinning back fist, but hits nothing but gloves as Powers continues to back Trice up to the fence. Powers lands a left body kick as Trice lands a right over the top. Powers keeps stalking the betting favorite, digging to the body and backing him up to the fence. Overhand right from Trice glances over Powers’ head, but he keeps looking for strikes until the bell.

Round 3

Trice launches another overhand right that briefly stumbles Powers, but he quickly regains his feet and remains stalking the heralded wrestler back to the fence. Powers switches stances, landing a quick left, which nearly looks like an error: Trice catches his foot and drives him back to the fence, but the Utah native shows awesome balance despite his head stretched over his head, staying on his feet. Both men resume a jabbing match and perhaps perceiving he might be struggling on the cards, Trice tries to up his punch output, throwing steady jabs to the head and body. Powers tries to lunge inside with 90 seconds to go and eats a flurry of uppercuts from Trice. Right hook to the body, then a right roundhouse upstairs from Powers, but Trice sees it coming and ably blocks. Powers is trying to feint and get Trice to open up, but Trice has gotten smarter with his output. The last 20 seconds may ultimately form the fight: Trice gets a quick single-leg takedown, Powers gets back up and hits a Superman punch off the fence a la Anthony Pettis, but Trice quickly regains his feet and drills him with a right hook. This one is very much in the judge’s hands.

Ben Moa vs. Steve Mowry

Round 1

Moa is avoidant, looking to counter from the outset. He’s lobbing overhand rights and drilling Mowry with low kicks. Mowry gets a sense of exactly how his opponent wants to approach this fight. Mowry keeps biding his time, eating the more seasoned striker’s low kicks. Mowry waits for the best time to shoot onto one of Moa’s low kicks, getting in deep on a single-leg takedown. Moa defends the initial takedown, but Mowry goes to a body lock, then transitions into an easy double-leg takedown in the middle of the cage. As soon as Pennsylvanian teases stepping over Moa’s head, he instantly locks up a rudimentary keylock and cranks it for the tap.

Adam Borics vs. Josenaldo Silva

Round 1

Silva is the stalker, walking Borics down to the fence, but the Hungarian is smart with his head movement, dodging Silva’s right hooks and chopping at his legs with outside low kicks. Borics lands a hard right hand, then an outside low kick, prompting Silva to shoot a sloppy double. Borics defends and both men dig for over-under along the cage. They break away and Silva glances with a right roundhouse upstairs, but Borics drills him with a right-hand counter. Silva lands a hard kick, Borics lands with a glancing flying knee. Every exchange here is charged, both men seeming like they’re one technique away from ending the fight. Silva drives Borics into the cage, but Borics easily defends until the bell.

Round 2

The same template is playing out, as the Brazilian stalks Borics but can’t land any meaningful strikes. Borics glances with an overhand right on Silva, who continues to kick low, but can’t land clean. The Brazilian finally gets sick of coming up lame and drives for the body, but Borics is undisturbed about his clinch offense, easily freeing himself. Silva seems to be getting more hostile as Borics keeps jabbing and chopping at his legs, so he goes upstairs with a hard right roundhouse that actually makes some contact. Borics seems undeterred, even as Silva smashes him with a right kick to the body. The Hungarian is the far classier, smarter striker, but Silva is putting everything behind his strikes now against the more complacent Borics.

Round 3

Silva drives Borics into the cage early, but again, Borics easily thwarts his takedown and they resume throwing overhand haymakers at one another. Silva is landing the left roundhouse kick to the body and has Borics backing up. The Brazilian shoots in on a laze single-leg takedown which Borics easily sits down on. Worse, as Silva drives for the outside leg, Borics frees his inside leg and turns the corner immediately, taking Silva’s back. Silva tries to stand as quickly as possible, but his motion isn’t nearly as fluid as his opponent: by the time “Naldo” gets to his feet, Borics already has both of his hooks sunk in, standing, choking him breathless. Before he can even collapse to the canvas, Silva is forced to tap out.

Justin Williams-Hugo vs. Vince Morales

Round 1

Morales is walking Hugo down, steadily landing his right hand. He’s not taking any risks, just working a simple, stalking countering game against his far more complacent opponent. Hugo lands a hard low kick and is keeping a high guard, but Morales is the only one landing any strikes with any conviction. Hard one-two lands for Morales. Hugo tries to answer back, but isn’t in the area code. With time ticking down, he throws some scant low kicks and Morales counters him off all of them. Morales is clearly showing no respect for his opponent and is simply treating this like sparring practice.

Round 2

The second stanza has a familiar feel, as Morales walks Hugo down, working his right hook and overhand. At the 40-second mark, Morales lands a stinger of a right that trips Hugo up and puts him on his seat. Morales shows no desire to go the ground, letting his man stand and going back to simply boxing up. At 90 seconds into the round, both men unleash right kicks to the body which happen to clash, unfortunately, they clash in the worst place for Hugo as he gets a reprieve from referee Mike Beltran from the low blow. Nothing changes upon the restart. Morales keeps hunting, landing copious, clean right hands. With two minutes left on the clock, he decks Hugo and leaves him stumbling. Morales remains patient, perhaps even admiring his work, and with 50 seconds left on the clock, clocks Hugo with another right hook. Hugo drops to his seat and tries to pull guard, looking for a futile armbar, but Morales easily defends and rides the round out.

Round 3

Jab-cross from Morales, who is still simply rinsing and repeating what he’s done for the first two rounds. Another two hard right hands land for Morales. Hugo is valiant but very clearly out of his competitive escalation, as he repeatedly gets hit with the same one-two combination on every every exchange. Morales with a body kick and another overhand right to Hugo, who is trying to fight back but doesn’t have the technique. With a minute left on the clock, Hugo lands his best punch of the fight with an overhand right, backing up Morales and momentarily stunning him. Yet, no less than 15 seconds later, Morales drills him with a right uppercut that turns him around 180 degrees, then Morales rear waistlocks him and slams him on his face, pummeling him until the final horn.

Patricky Freire vs. Roger Huerta

Round 1

Huerta walking Freire down, throwing his right hands as Freire tries to kick him off to maintain distance. “El Matador” switches southpaw and starts landing overhand lefts, but Freire is landing harder right hands, winning in the exchanges. With two minutes to go, this has turned into a fire fight. Inside low kick by Huerta, who has changed back to orthodox stance. Heavy right hook from Freire, but Huerta rocks the Brazilian with a one-two combo. Both men keep swinging, getting as good as they give. With just under 30 seconds to go, Freire shoots in on a double-leg takedown and puts Huerta on the mat, stemming the flow of intensity, riding out the round on top.

Round 2

Huerta isn’t backing down in the slightest. He continues to switch stances, lobbing hooks and overhands at Freire with regularity, but not landing. Both men step breast-to-breast and unload with both hands in a massive collision, almost everyone missing. Huerta tries to jab his way into another combination, but winds up in a frantic exchange. “Pitbull” lands a vicious right hook that turns Huerta’s head around. Huerta tries to get his wits about him, but Freire knows he’s got his man dead to rites. Freire keeps hunting, taking his time. Huerta throws a lame low kick, has his kick caught and Freire drills him with punches while holding his leg in the air. Huerta gets his leg free, but as he turns around, Freire drills him with a right hook that drops him on his face, snuggling the canvas. Savage knockout by Patricky Freire.

Veta Arteaga vs. Denise Kielholtz

Round 1

The natural striker Kielholtz comes out working her jab and low kicks and the minute she closes the distance, Arteaga ties her up and looks for a trip takedown from the body clinch. Kielholtz gets loose and circles out, regaining her distance and tagging Arteaga with loose jabs. Arteaga shoots a sloppy double-leg takedown and Kielholtz easily gets an underhook and works her way off the fence. Arteaga throws a loose leg kick, Kielholtz catches it and briefly drops some punches from Ali-Inoki position. Arteaga gets back to her feet and both women feint until the horn goes.

Round 2

Kielholtz still looking to work her striking, but Arteaga seems wiser to her simplistic striking offense. As soon as Kielholtz launches a low kick, Arteaga tackles her off the kick and as soon as the Belgian tries to regain guard, Arteaga tackles her. Kielholtz looks for an armbar, but Arteaga pounds and passes to side. Kielholtz is able to get back to her feet and surprisingly, shoots a double-leg takedown of her own that surprises Arteaga. Arteaga quickly works her back up off the fence and as Kielholtz keeps driving for the lame takedown, Arteaga wraps her up in a standing guillotine choke. Kielholtz keeps trying to drive forward for a double-leg takedown, but Arteaga keeps her footing and cranks on her foe’s neck harder, eliciting the tap.

Rafael Lovato Jr. vs. John Salter

Round 1

Salter has no qualms about what gameplay he wants to work. The UFC veteran immediately starts pumping his jab in Lovato’s face, forcing him back to the fence. Salter keeps throwing jabs and overhand rights, but Lovato continues to lean out of distance, just landing inside low kicks. Salter whizzes a big right hook but misses his target, and Lovato circles out and resets. Sharp right hand by Salter, but Lovato ties him up and drives him into the cage, looking for a takedown. In the final 60 seconds, Salter getting more confrontational, working his own kids and letting the right hand ring out. Lovato glances with an overhand right just before the bell.

Round 2

Salter continues employing his jab and overhand right, looking to keep Lovato off-balance and possibly score a takedown. Lovato with a hard inside low kick, and overhand right. Salter dives in on a weak double-leg takedown and winds up in a standing guillotine choke, which Lovato quickly jumps and works to finish. Salter extricates himself, but Lovato keeps working for the choke, before snaking his way back up the fence and separating. They continue exchanging jabs and low kicks, but again, Salter jumps in on a soft takedown and nearly winds up guillotined by the savvy jiu-jitsu practitioner.

Round 3

It’s exactly the same fight that has played out over the first 10 minutes. Salter keeps trudging forward, throwing jabs and overhand rights, while Lovato tries to work inside low kicks and quick clinch takedowns to gain an advantage. Lovato lands another hard combo and then steps into a Salter engagement, quickly getting double underhooks and putting his man on the mat. Lovato cuts from half guard to full mount in just the blink of an eye with a knee-slice pass. With two minutes to go, Lovato gets full mount and starts rifling Salter with right hands. Salter keeps moving and defending, but ultimately gives up his back. Salter gets to his knees, trying to stand, but he’s simply against a world-class grappler. Salter fights his foe’s grip, but Lovato savagely wrenches his figure-four grip around his neck and cinches the rear-naked choke, prompting the Salter tap.

A.J. McKee vs. John Teixeira da Conceicao

The southpaw McKee comes out heavy, ripping a heavy left roundhouse kick to the head of Teixeira. “Macapa” tries to respond with a kick of his own, but the American easily avoids it. McKee launches a spinning heel kick, but it doesn’t land clean and off a broken transition, Teixeira looks to land punches. Both men get up to their feet and flurry. McKee and Teixeira swing wide, but as Macapa launches a particularly errant right hook, McKee takes a step inside and throws a precise left hook that absolutely wipes the Brazilian out. “Macapa” is toast on impact. McKee steps over his opponent’s supine body, but thinks better of delivering an unnecessary coffin nail. Vicious knockout by A.J. McKee.
