Audio Emerges of Chris Weidman's UFC 210 Corner; Weidman Thought it Was February

Audio of former UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman's corner during the critical moments of his April 8 TKO loss to Gegard Mousasi at UFC 210 has come out and it helps to shed light on cageside physicians' decision to not allow Weidman to continue.

Mousasi-Weidman has quickly become one of 2017's biggest MMA controversies, as referee Dan Miragliotta initially called for a halt in the action at 3:13 of the second round when Mousasi landed a series of knees that were initially deemed illegal. While Weidman was downed from the strikes, Miragliotta conferenced with officials and the New York State Athletic Commission and was told that the knees were legal, as Weidman had a hand off of the floor on impact.

After the legality of the knees was dubiously determined, attending doctors deemed Weidman unfit to continue, giving Mousasi the second-round TKO win.

The audio from Weidman's corner is a frantic and characteristically profane conversation between trainers Ray Longo and Matt Serra. Critically, Serra tells Longo that Weidman was unable to correctly tell physicians the date.

“Because he didn’t know what day it is? He might not know what day it is,” Serra yells. “He told them it was February and he didn’t know what the date was. I told you that m-----------’s a dirty c---------!”

Sunday, Weidman's manager Audie Attar confirmed to Newsday that Weidman would officially appeal the New York State Athletic Commission's decision on Monday.
