Since starting his career off at an impressive 17-1 including three wins inside the Octagon, Stamann has gone through tumultuous times. A Suloev stretch kneebar defeat to Aljamain Sterling in 2018 snapped a 10-fight win streak, although he did go on to win his next bout against Alejandro Perez. A draw with Yadong Song, where Song lost a point in the opening round from an illegal knee, came between the Perez performance and a subsequent win over Brian Kelleher. His last appearance was unsuccessful, when he took a short-notice bout against Jimmie Rivera at featherweight and lost by decision.
Ewell is riding a two-fight split decision victory win streak into his short-notice opportunity against Stamann. In 2020, Ewell scored a pair of split verdicts against Jonathan Martinez and Irwin Rivera for this streak. “Mr. Highlight” made his promotional debut in 2018, where he also won a split decision, but against former bantamweight kingpin Renan Barao. With four wins on the scorecards in his UFC tenure, those wins account for two-thirds of his career decision triumphs.
UFC Fight Night 184 goes down at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas on Feb. 6, with a headliner between Alistair Overeem and Alexander Volkov at heavyweight. The co-main event draws a bantamweight scrap between Cory Sandhagen and Frankie Edgar, while additional main card bouts include a Diego Ferreira vs. Beneil Dariush rematch at lightweight as well as a high-stakes flyweight tilt between Alexandre Pantoja and Manel Kape.
