Anderson Silva Facing 4-6 Week Recovery Period Following Gall Bladder Surgery

Anderson Silva will be out for at least a month following the gall bladder surgery that forced him to withdraw from UFC 198.

“Earlier this week, medical personnel determined that Anderson Silva was suffering from inflammation of the gallbladder, a serious ailment that forced him off the UFC 198 card. As a result of the condition, Silva had successful, minimally invasive surgery in Brazil today to remove the gallbladder. He is now resting comfortably following the procedure,” the UFC stated in a release.

“The recovery period following the surgery is estimated at 4-6 weeks and Silva will be reexamined by doctors before being cleared to return to training. Silva thanks all of his fans around the world for their support and words of encouragement during this time.”

“The Spider” was supposed to face Uriah Hall in a featured middleweight bout in Curitiba, Brazil on Saturday night. Hall has since been pulled from the card. It is currently unclear when the former champion will return to the Octagon, although trainer Rogerio Camoes told Brazilian media outlet PVT that his fighter wants to compete at UFC 200 on July 9.

Silva last fought at UFC Fight Night in London on Feb. 27, where he dropped a unanimous decision to Michael Bisping in the evening’s main event.
