Alexander Gustafsson-‘Minotoro’ Nogueira Slated for March 8 Meeting in London

Former UFC light heavyweight title challenger Alexander Gustafsson will return to the cage on March 8, 2014, when the Swede locks horns with Antonio Rogerio Nogueira in London.

UFC President Dana White announced the booking on Saturday following UFC Fight Night 30, which took place at the Phones 4U Arena in Manchester, England.

Gustafsson and Nogueira were originally supposed to clash in April 2012 at UFC on Fuel TV 2, but that booking was scrapped when “Minotoro” pulled out of the contest due to injury. Gustafsson instead faced Thiago Silva, whom he easily outpointed before scoring a unanimous decision over Mauricio Rua to close out last year. “The Mauler” was then granted a title shot against Jon Jones last month at UFC 165, taking “Bones” to the limit but ultimately coming up short on the judges’ scorecards in the early favorite for “Fight of the Year.”

Nogueira, by contrast, has competed just twice in as many years due to injury. The Brazilian has gone 4-2 since joining the UFC in 2009 and rides back-to-back wins into his planned booking with Gustafsson. “Minotoro” last competed in February, when he upset former light heavyweight king Rashad Evans at UFC 156 via unanimous decision.
