Alexander Gustafsson Expected to Be Out Indefinitely
At one point in time, Sweden’s Alexander Gustafsson was one of the most feared light heavyweights in the sport of mixed martial arts. He had lost only once in 16 pro fights and was riding a dominant six-fight winning streak.
But when he finally got a crack at the 205-pound title against then-champ Jon Jones at UFC 162 three years ago, he gave it everything he had and came up short after five grueling rounds. But from that point forward, “The Mauler” has had nothing but terrible luck in and out of the Octagon.

According to an initial report on MMAMania, Gustafsson has been injured and will be out indefinitely. Nagging back issues have hampered him and he had to recently pull out of a showdown with Antonio Rogerio Nogueira scheduled for UFC Fight Night 100 (live odds) in December. Gustafsson’s co-manager Tomas Ghassemi also told ESPN.com that back problems have been ailing him since his showdown with Anthony Johnson.
An official diagnosis on the injury and the rehabilitation time table have not been revealed as of this writing.
