11 Bouts Official for UFC 109

Highly touted light heavyweight prospect Phil Davis will make his promotional debut against former World Extreme Cagefighting champion Brian Stann at UFC 109 “Relentless” on Feb. 6 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas. Eleven bouts are now official for the event, scheduled on the eve of Super Bowl XLIV.

Known as “Mr. Wonderful,” Davis was a four-time All-American wrestler at Penn State University, where he finished his stellar collegiate career with a 116-20 record. A national champion at 197 pounds in 2008, he trains out of Brandon Vera’s Alliance Training Center in San Diego. The 25-year-old owns a 4-0 professional record, having competed inside the Palace Fighting Championship, Ultimate Warrior Challenge and Ultimate Cage Fighting Challenge promotions. Davis, a Harrisburg, Pa., native, last appeared in June, when he submitted David Baggett with a rear-naked choke in 3:37.

Stann, meanwhile, has posted back-to-back wins since his submission loss to Krzysztof Soszynski at UFC 97. Now anchored at Jackson’s Mixed Martial Arts in Albuquerque, N.M., the 29-year-old Marine last competed at “The Ultimate Fighter 10” Finale in December, as he outpointed Rodney Wallace en route to a unanimous decision. Six of Stann’s eight career victories have come inside one round.

In another undercard showdown, Rolles Gracie, the grandson of Brazilian jiu-jitsu founder Carlos Gracie Sr., will debut in the Octagon against Mostapha Al-Turk.

A two-time Brazilian jiu-jitsu national champion, the 6-foot-4, 250-pound Gracie has submitted all three of his opponents in professional mixed martial arts. He coaxed a tapout from decorated Australian kickboxer Peter Graham at Art of War 14 in September. Gracie broke into MMA inside the now defunct International Fight League in 2007.

Victimized in two UFC appearances by Cheick Kongo and 2006 Pride open weight grand prix winner Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic, Al-Turk may be on his last leg under the Zuffa LLC banner. The 36-year-old former Cage Rage champion holds notable victories against Mark Kerr and “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 10 semi-finalist James McSweeney. Al Turk has gone the distance only once in 11 career bouts.

A light heavyweight legends match pairing UFC hall of famers Randy Couture with Mark Coleman will headline UFC 109, along with a pivotal middleweight bout between Nate Marquardt and Chael Sonnen.
