10 Bouts Booked for UFC 117

Former Cage Gladiators heavyweight champion Stefan Struve will collide with unbeaten Massachusetts-based prospect Christian Morecraft in a preliminary matchup at UFC 117 “Silva vs. Sonnen” on Aug. 7 at the Oracle Arena in Oakland, Calif. Ten bouts are now official for the event.

The 6-foot-11 Struve, a winner in eight of his last 10 fights, last appeared at UFC Fight Night 21 in March, when he succumbed to first-round punches from “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 10 winner Roy Nelson in Charlotte, N.C. The 22-year-old Dutchman has delivered 14 of his 19 career victories by submission.

Based at the Cape Cod Fighting Alliance, Morecraft has finished all six of his opponents inside the first-round. The 6-foot-8, 260-pound heavyweight has 40-, 56-, 60- and 70-second victories on his resume. He struck Lee Beane into submission at a Cage Fighting Xtreme show on May 20 in Plymouth, Mass.

A middleweight title fight between embattled champion Anderson Silva and outspoken challenger Chael Sonnen will headline UFC 117, which will also feature a welterweight matchup between hall of famer Matt Hughes and former King of Pancrase Ricardo Almeida.
