The Expert Edge: UFC 229

(SPONSORED CONTENT) -- The upcoming UFC 229 has reached nothing short of legendary status, featuring the return of Conor McGregor, one of the most iconic figures to emerge from the MMA world, for a bout that has existed in imaginations and hypothetical bar banter for years. The shockwaves from 229 are sure to be felt throughout the community for a long time after the bell and our own UFC veteran Richie Vass is here with his expert take.

Khabib Nurmagomedov, AKA The Eagle, AKA the current UFC lightweight champ, will be squaring off with the former UFC lightweight champ, Conor The Notorious McGregor for the most anticipated fight in recent MMA history. Currently boasting a 26-0 record (the longest winning streak in the sports record), Khabib will be walking into the cage with a tonne of confidence aided by the fact he’s basically walked through most of his opponents. Mind you, none of them have been McGregor.

If there’s a fighter out there to match the confidence of Khabib, it’s The Notorious. If McGregor manages to keep things standing, there’s a good chance he could reclaim his title but our man in the know, Vass, sees Nurmagomedov taking things to the ground as soon as possible and bringing the fight to a stop down there by the third round.

Also featured on the main card of 229 is the Lightweight battle between former interim champ Tony “El Cucuy” Ferguson facing off against Anthony “Showtime” Pettis, the former division champ. The sparks will be flying. Ferguson comes in high atop a 10-fight win streak, having only lost 1 of his last 20. Known for his innovative fight style, and a grappling game straight from hell, Showtime has his work cut out for him.

Pettis is touted as one of the greatest Lightweight Champs of all time, with a signature move, The Showtime kick, that can be heard around the world when it connects but Vass sees that it simply won’t be enough to break Ferguson, who’ll be setting a pace that Showtime won’t be able to match.

Now all that’s left is to strap ourselves in and brace for the impact of UFC 229.
