Shane Mosley Jr. Not Far From the Tree

Shane Mosley Jr. already has a household name in the boxing world.
Now, at the age of 23 -- while proud of his pedigree -- he’s trying to build a reputation of his own.

“The pressure and notoriety come with the territory, but I am prepared to do the best I can,” said Mosley in a press release distributed by Bash Boxing, who is hosting the card at the Oceanview Pavilion in Port Hueneme, Calif.
Also coming with the territory of following in one’s footsteps are questions involving similarities between himself and his father. While vastly different in terms of style and length due to Mosley Jr.’s taller build, the gifted prospect feels a closer connection with his dad in his corner.
“I have hit the mitts with other trainers, but I know my father has my best interest at heart, and he has experience at the top level,” declared Mosley. “Like what Floyd Mayweather Jr. has with Roger [Mayweather]. He is a family member and has that big fight experience ... I have that with my dad. Also my father is critiquing me different than just as a coach.”
A sparring partner of Paul Mendez, Kassim Ouma, Paul Mendez and others at Freddie Roach’s Wild Card Gym in Hollywood, Calif., Mosley (37-10 as an amateur) is tasked with facing a yet-to-be-announced foe for his pro debut.
“Well, as an amateur, you have to take it as it comes,” said the confident upstart. “Your opponent will be whoever wins the next round, or whoever shows up. So, it doesn't make a difference. I prepared to fight whoever.”
