Doerksen Stops Seguin in KOTC Canada

CALGARY, Albert, Canada, Sept. 24 — Co-promoter Ken Kupsch, a championship shooter who owns one of the world’s top shooting ranges, partnered with long-time kickboxing entrepreneur Keith Crawford to hold a fantastic King of the Cage show at the Calgary Stampede fairgrounds.

It was a high-energy affair that drew in excess of 4,000 fans and featured celebrity MMA guests Rich Franklin (Pictures) and Chuck Liddell (Pictures), and NHL star Chris Simon of the Calgary Flames.

In the marquee match-up, Brendan Seguin faced Joe Doerksen (Pictures) in a close match that went into the third round with Seguin apparently ahead on points due to effective counter-punching of Doerksen’s powerful takedown attempts.

The fight ended controversially when Doerksen dropped Seguin with a knee to the ribs and then followed with a ground flurry that forced a referee TKO stoppage at 1:49 of the third. Seguin was still defending himself when the stoppage occurred and felt the fight ended prematurely.

In a crowd-pleasing battle of 250-pound plus stand-up specialists, Jason “The Monster” Weiss handled Carvan Mafatu via ground-and-pound punches from the side mount at 4:19 in the second, after being stunned several times on the feet.

Blake Frederickson used powerful Muay Thai knees to stun grappler Chris Ade and then finish him with standing punches for a 3:28 second round TKO.

Patrick Healy dominated Kurt McKinnon via guillotine choke at 2:01 of the first.

Travis Galbraith handled Todd Skyler by getting the mount and then forcing him to turn with punches for the rear-naked choke win at 1:46.

Dan Ratu was arm-locked by John Louro at 3:29 in the second after a somewhat slow first round on the feet.

American star James Lee, called into action on short notice, quickly dispatched a game but overmatched Ryan Harvey via 29-second TKO.

Billy Ayash, “The Punisher,” did just that to Greg Rogalsky by knocking him down and then using ground-and-pound for a 2:39 TKO.

Alberto-native Tarrouf Salloum choked Geno Roderick after initially getting mounted but then using a nifty reversal to get to the back.

Jason Reinhardt tapped Joe Santiago via rear-naked choke after initially giving up the full mount.

Adam Bass dusted hometown hero Dustin Sutley in just 12 seconds, when the fight was seemingly prematurely stopped after a mutual knockdown and quick ground flurry by Bass.

Vance Swerdan drew with Nick Perry in a fight that featured a lot of time spent jostling for ground position.

Zach Jenkins beat Greg Rejo in a two-round decision due to more aggression.

Another KOTC Canada event is scheduled for Edmonton, Alberta this coming Saturday, October 1. For more information visit www.kingofthecage.ca.
