Roller Wants Rematch With Henderson
By: Mike Fridley

Shane Roller barely broke a sweat on Saturday in Sacramento, Calif.
In just 3:07, the former three-time NCAA All-American wrestler from Oklahoma State University made a strong statement with a dominant submission win against Anthony Njokuani at WEC 48.
“I just wanted to make sure I had the position first off,” said Roller (8-2) of the submission on Saturday night’s Beatdown After the Bell radio program. “I was just concentrating on positions, just waiting. Keep attacking the neck, and one time I did have it pretty close, but he had his chin down.
“I started applying a little bit of pressure, because sometimes you can get that choke with the chin down. He turned his head, and I felt like I was losing it, so I tired to switch hands. Just going back and fourth and waiting and then finally that last time, I think I threw a couple little punches to his head, got him thinking about that. Sunk that choke in deep and I knew I had it that time. So I squeezed his legs, arms and everything.”
Roller’s lone WEC loss came at the hands of lightweight champion Benson Henderson at WEC 40 in April 2009. More than anything, the Team Takedown fighter eyes a rematch and a shot at the divisional title.
“This means everything to me. I want to get in the ring with Henderson and get that belt.”
With three consecutive wins and two impressive submission finishes over respected opponents, Roller feels he’s placed himself in position for title contention.
“I’m just waiting for that shot, that opportunity. Hopefully they give it to me. I think I deserve it.” Read more
