Weekend Rundown: Bahadurzada, Depret Advance to Glory GP Final

The final of United Glory’s 2010-2011 MMA World Series will be an all-Golden Glory affair, as welterweight stablemates Siyar Bahadurzada and Tommy Depret each emerged victorious from their semifinal bouts at the Spiroudome in Charleroi, Belgium, on Saturday.
Bahadurzada put a stop to Canadian John Alessio’s seven-fight win streak, punching out the former UFC and WEC welterweight title challenger with ground-and-pound just 1:55 into the first round. The 26-year-old “Siyar the Great” -- who inked a Strikeforce deal in April 2010, but has yet to debut for the promotion -- has won four of his last five via first-round knockout.
Belgian native Depret impressed his hometown crowd by forcing Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt Roan Carneiro to submit to an armbar at 2:36 of round one. In October’s quarterfinals, Depret took only 36 seconds to tap another UFC vet, David Bielkheden, with a guillotine choke.
The Shooto Belgium-affiliated promotion will hold its next event May 22 in Moscow, where Bahadurzada and Depret will square off in the tournament final for a total of $150,000 in prize money. Read more -
Teixeira, Filho Dominate at Bitetti Combat 8

SAO PAULO -- Virtually forgotten amidst the “The Ultimate Fighter 12 Finale” and Strikeforce “Henderson vs. Babalu II” madness, Bitetti Combat held its eighth card on Saturday night in celebration of Sport Club Corinthians Paulista’s 100th anniversary. Surprisingly, the gymnasium was at less than half-capacity, but the present crowd got their money’s worth after being treated to an entertaining night of fights.
In the main event of the evening, talented light heavyweight Glover Teixeira used the same formula for three rounds to dominate Spain’s Daniel Tabera. Teixeira took Tabera down in the beginning of every period and proceed to pound Tabera from the top. The Spaniard managed to stand back up on a few occasions, only to be taken down again and endure more punishment from the Brazilian. Read more -
Filho, ‘Ninja’ Roll at Bitetti Combat 5

SAO PAULO, Brazil -- Former World Extreme Cagefighting middleweight champion Paulo Filho took down and submitted Tatsuhiko Nishizaka with a first-round kimura in the Bitetti Combat Nordeste 5 main event on Saturday at the Barueri Gymnasium.

Nishizaka waved the white flag 3:00 into the fight, as Filho posted his third straight win. The 31-year-old Brazilian has never lost inside the BCN promotion.
“As everybody knows, my biggest fight is against depression, but I’m wining this fight and started to train again,” Filho said. “I hope in 2010 I’ll return 100 percent.” -
Mousasi: Filho a 'Little Donkey'

A good drubbing of Renato Sobral has apparently made Gegard Mousasi pretty confident against Brazilians: after former middleweight WEC champion Paulo Filho challenged him to a bout, Mousasi retaliated via USA Today, calling Filho a “little donkey” who needs “magic stuff” to perform.

He does not mean vitamin C. “We all saw what happened when he came to America,” Mousasi said. “He got beat up. Now he’s back in Japan and feels like a kid in a candy store, I think. He can use all kinds of steroids. I think the steroids have gone to his head….he’s a little donkey who thinks he’s a running horse.”
Filho had previously told Tatame that he would submit the Strikeforce light-heavyweight champion, a challenge egged on by that promotion’s plans to co-promote with Filho’s Dream employers. Expect a frothing Filho to rebut shortly.
